Unbridled’s Song filly pops for $1 million at Keeneland

Hip 116, a filly by Unbridled’s Song, sells for
$1 million to top Day 2 at
KEE SEPT.

Unbridled’s Song sired the highest-priced filly at the select portion of Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale, when Hip 116 brought $1 million from Mandy Pope of Whisper Hill Farm during Book One’s second session on Sept. 12th.

The seven-figure filly represents the 25th time that a yearling by Unbridled’s Song sold for at least $1,000,000.

Hip 116 is a gray/roan out of the unraced Silver Deputy mare Silvery Swan, and is a half-sister to Grade 1 winners and sires Roman Ruler and El Corredor. She was consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent for breeders Betz Thoroughbreds, Needham, Liberation Farm, and Hill ‘n’ Dale.

Pope told the media after the sale, “Physically, she’s very classy, very well balanced,” Pope said. “Her attitude was wonderful; she’s just a nice horse to be around. Of course her pedigree is wonderful. If she can run like her brothers did, she’ll be a very lovely horse.”

“I have never spent this kind of money on a horse before but I just fell in love with her,” Pope added.

She said the filly will be sent to trainer Robert Hess Jr., who is based in southern California.
