Three-year-old Emcee was the star of the show in the third race on Sept. 14 at Belmont, drawing off to a 4 1/2-length victory in the career bow for the dark bay son of Unbridled’s Song.
Despite stumbling after an awkward break, Emcee moved right into contention, sitting third under a tight hold for the first half-mile. Alan Garcia let his mount loose while going three wide into the lane, and he galloped by the leaders under his own power to come home the easiest of winners. The Darley homebred covered the six furlongs in a lively 1:09.74.
The victory was worth $30,000 to the connections. Emcee is one of five winners out of Surf Club, who has also produced Wintergreen S. winner Spring Party. Surf Club is a half-sister to Awesome Humor, winner of the Grade 1 Spinaway S. and two other graded events at two, and the Indiana Oaks (G3) at age three.
