A gray or roan filly from the first crop of unbeaten juvenile Old Fashioned sold for $360,000 Tuesday evening at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale. It easily marked the highest price for a yearling by a freshman sire so far in 2012.
Coupled with a $250,000 colt sold at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Sale, Old Fashioned has now sired the top-priced yearling filly and co-top-priced yearling colt by a first-year stallion of 2012. And his seven yearlings to sell at FTK July and Saratoga Select have averaged $147,425, an outstanding return of nearly 12 times the stud fee.
The Saratoga filly was catalogued as Hip 154, from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales Agency, Agent, and purchased by Roy and Gretchen Jackson’s Lael Stable. Out of the young, stakes-winning Grand Slam mare Cintarosa, the filly is from a live, deep international family, which includes European Champion filly Snow Princess and U.S. Grade 1 winner Full Out.
A multiple Graded stakes winner of $583,280, Old Fashioned won his first four starts, including the Remsen S. (G2) and Southwest S. (G3). He covered 124 mares his first year at stud.
