Unrivaled Honor rolls by nearly a dozen in maiden score

Unrivaled Honor left the field in her wake with a rollicking 11 3/4-length maiden score by the 3-year-old daughter of Unbridled’s Song Feb. 4 at Sam Houston Race Track.

Stretching out to a mile after her six furlong debut on Jan. 12, the Phillips Racing Partnership and Hank Snowden homebred took to the added quarter mile with gusto, sitting patiently in second until her rider gave her the cue to go at the top of the lane. In a matter of a few strides she was four lengths clear and coasted home the easiest of winners.

A gray or roan like her sire, Unrivaled Honor comes from a top-class Phillips broodmare line. Her dam Honor Bestowed has already produced quarter-million dollar earner Taqarub, winner of the Maryland Sprint H. (G3) and is a half-sister to Soaring Softly, the 1999 champion female turf horse who won four graded stakes, highlighted by the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) and Flower Bowl I. (G1).

Unbridled’s Song has gotten off to a typical strong start at stud in 2013. He already has a pair of stakes winners this year, led by the exciting 3-year-old colt Will Take Charge, winner of the $150,000 Smarty Jones S. Jan. 21 at Oaklawn Park.
