Unbridled’s Song’s Grade 3 winner Noble Tune closed with a furious rush through the Tampa Bay Downs stretch to win his first start of the year Saturday. Winner of the Pilgrim S. (G3) last autumn at Belmont Park, the dark bay colt finished 2012 with a runner-up placing in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) in November.
Unbridled’s Song, the sire of 100 stakes winners in his career, ranks sixth on the 2013 General Sire list, with four stakes winners already to his credit this year. His top earner this year is Graydar, winner of the Donn H. (G1) on Feb. 9 at Gulfstream Park.
Noble Tune, trained by Chad Brown for co-owners Martin S. Schwartz and Dell Ridge Farm (also his breeder), got away a bit tardy in Saturday’s one-mile contest. Near the back of the field for the first six furlongs, John Velazquez swung the 1-2 favorite very wide coming into the stretch. In the clear, Noble Tune showed a very quick turn of foot to go from seventh to first in an eighth mile, nosing out Are You Kidding Me for the win.
The final time was 1:35.05 on the firm turf, including a final quarter mile in an incredible :22.57 seconds.
Noble Tune has won three of four starts, earning $336,930. The 3-year-old colt is the first foal out of the stakes-winning mare Serena’s Cat.
