Teaks North earns top prize in Good Reward S.

Teaks North spurted away at the top of the stretch to scamper home a 1 3/4-length winner in the $90,000 Good Reward S. May 15 at Belmont Park. The multiple Grade One winning son of Northern Afleet now has seven stakes wins in his career and earnings of $1,183,464.

Teaks North, who was second in this year’s Grade 2 Mac Diarmida S. at Gulfstream Park, is the leading earner and one of 10 stakes horses this year by his sire.

The Good Reward was contested at 1 1/4-miles on Belmont’s inner turf course. Teaks North was prominent throughout the 10 furlongs, tracking in second behind longshot Joan’s Choice for the first mile. The leader began to falter at that point, and Teaks North moved quickly to the lead under John Velazquez. He was up two lengths in mid-stretch, then held sway in the final furlong to get the distance in 2:01.85 on a firm turf course.

With a career full of highlight races, Teaks North got signature wins in the Gulfstream Park Turf H. (G1) and the United Nations H. (G1) at Monmouth Park, both in 2011. He also took the Grade 3 Monmouth S. that same year.

Bred in Florida by Brylynn Farm, Teaks North is now owned by Resolute Group Stables. The 6-year-old is out of Teaksberry Road, making a half-brother to winner Wooden Phone as well as the stakes winners Teak Totem and Chief Okie Dokie.
