Freshman sire Old Fashioned picked up the fourth 2-year-old winner from his first crop to hit the racetrack, and it was once again a debut performance that created a buzz.
In his first start, Mr. Splash hooked a full field of 12 and broke towards the rear in the six-furlong heat. The chestnut colt made an eye-grabbing rally to roll past the entire field for a half-length win in a $30,000 Maiden Special Weight race at Golden Gates.
Mr. Splash showed a burst and level of professionalism seldom seen in 2-year-olds making their career debut. Trained by Richard Baltas, the promising juvenile earned $16,200 for owner and breeder Janavar Thoroughbreds LLC.
