Debutante wins at Belmont, becomes 1st winner for Eskendereya

Stonestreet Farms’ freshman sire Eskendereya, who stands at Taylor Made Stallions, sired his first winner Thursday, July 10th when his 2-year-old filly Isabella Sings impressively won her debut after taking a $75,000 Maiden Special Weight field gate to wire at Belmont.

A Siena Farms homebred, Isabella Sings broke smartly and was never headed in the six-furlong event, hitting the wire with a length to spare in 1:08.94 over the local turf course. The chestnut filly is trained by Todd Pletcher, who also conditioned Eskendereya throughout his Grade 1-winning career. Out of the stakes-producing Lomitas (GB) mare Isobel Bailie (GB), Isabella Sings earned $45,000 for her debut win.

“This is an exciting day for everyone involved with Eskendereya, and we are very appreciative to Stonestreet Farm for the opportunity to stand such a promising young stallion,” said Ben Taylor, Vice President of Taylor Made Stallions. “It means a lot to see his first winner be a homebred for a great operation like Siena Farm, and we look forward to watching his progeny win many more races all over the country the remainder of the year.”

On the track, Eskendereya was the highest rated 3-year-old in the world on dirt in 2010 by the World Thoroughbred Rankings after the son of Giant’s Causeway scored dominant back-to-back wins in the Wood Memorial (G1) and Fountain of Youth S. (G2). Prior to that, Eskendereya also enjoyed success as a 2-year-old at Belmont, breaking his maiden in the Pilgrim Stakes. An earner of $725,700, Eskendereya retired to Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, KY, where he recently completed his fourth breeding season. His 2014 fee was $17,500 stands and nurses.
