Escondido stormed from seventh to first in the final quarter mile to win his one-mile maiden contest by a widening 2 ¾-lengths Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
Escondido is Eskendereya’s eighth winner from his first crop. Eskendereya will stand at Taylor Made in 2015 for $17,500 live foal; he was bred to 139 mares in 2014.
Escondido was part of a full field of 14 2-year-olds in Saturday’s affair, and had to go five wide into the stretch to find clear running room to secure the win. Out of the Irgun mare Kamaal, Escondido is a half-brother to stakes winners Getaway Guy and Cave’s Valley.
Escondido sold for $370,000 at the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
