Sweet Whiskey shows spirit in Inside Information (G2)

Making her first start off a nearly four-month layoff, Sweet Whiskey battled hard from the outset and ran a strong third in the $200,000 Inside Information S. (G2) on March 21st at Gulfstream.

The Graded stakes winner from the first crop by Old Fashioned was beaten just a neck and a half length in garnering her seventh stakes win/placing and boosting her earnings past $450,000. Pleased with the spirited effort, her connections announced they are targeting the Humana Distaff H. (G1) over the same seven-furlong distance on Derby Day.

In the Inside Information, Sweet Whiskey broke sharply under Johnny Velazquez, and rushed up to challenge between horses. Wresting command going into the far turn, Sweet Whiskey had a daylight lead after a half in :44.60 and six furlongs in 1:10.54. The early effort took its toll, however, and she was passed in the shadow of the wire.

Bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall, Sweet Whiskey was sold as a yearling to Bradley Thoroughbreds for $75,000, then as a two-year-old to Steven W. Young, agent for $300,000. Racing for Alto Racing LLC, she has compiled a record of 12-2-4-2 and $452,300 under trainer Todd Pletcher.

Old Fashioned has now sired eight stakes horses, five stakes winners and earners of nearly $4-million from his first two crops. The son of Unbridled’s Song is standing the 2015 season for $12,500 live foal.
