Eskendereya filly scores in $125K Landaluce S.

Making just her second lifetime start, Right There uncorked a big rally to secure a 4 ¾-length victory in Sunday’s $125,000 Landaluce S. at Santa Anita Park.

Right There is Eskendereya’s second 2-year-old to break their maiden at Santa Anita in the past three days. The Taylor Made stallion ranks in the top 10 in both the Second-Crop and Two-Year-Old sire lists.

Right There broke in good order, but was allowed to settle several lengths off the lead while well off the rail. She edged slightly closer around the turn. Nearly in the center of the track coming into the stretch, Right There found her stride and rolled past the leaders with long, fluid strides to come home an easy winner.

“I think Keith needs a lot of credit for this win,” said winning rider Kent Desormeaux of his brother. “We talked about the race on the way to the paddock and I asked him what he wanted me to do. He told me, ‘break well, but don’t chase them for five eighths of a mile. Get her on her feet and keep her happy.

“Keith trains them to have a big closing kick and she ran like she does in the morning. I think she’s showing her true talent because she’s not supposed to be winning at five eighths. She wants to go two turns and she has a big, long stride.”

Right There is owned by Matt Bryan, who races as Big Chief Racing LLC. She was a closing second in her debut at 4 ½-furlongs a month ago. She has banked $86,200 in her two starts.

Right There is out of Elrose, who has already produced Grade 3 winner Super Freaky. Elrose is a half-sister to champion and Hall of Famer Silver Charm.
