Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) the goal for War Story

Northern Afleet, the sire of 2011 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner, looks to double his total in this year’s Breeders’ Cup on Friday when War Story goes postward in the $1 million Dirt Mile (G1) at Keeneland.

Three-year-old War Story has battled with the best of his generation for all of 2015. Based in Louisiana at Fair Grounds this winter, he placed in all three of that track’s graded Kentucky Derby preps. After a very rough trip in the Derby, he also placed in the West Virginia Derby (G2) after a very wide trip.

The Dirt Mile is the chestnut’s first start against older horses, but his 2-for-2 record at the distance will work to his advantage. The post position draw was unkind, putting him on the outside in the field of 11.

Owned by Loooch Racing Stables, and Glenn Ellis, War Story is trained by Jeff Radosevich.

Friday’s Dirt Mile, race 7, has a scheduled post time of 4:10 p.m. ET.
