California Chrome draws outside for Dubai World Cup (G1)

Taylor Made Farm’s and Perry Martin’s 2014 Horse of the Year California Chrome drew post 11 of 12 for Saturday’s $10 million Dubai World Cup (G1) at Meydan Racecourse.

While the draw for the 1 ¼-mile race may not have been ideal, trainer Art Sherman was not overly concerned.

“The outside draw is good if you’ve got the horse, and I hope we have,” he said. “There wasn’t too much I could do about the draw. He’s got tactical speed so I’m not going to worry about it.”

California Chrome has been training in Dubai for the better part of two months, including an easy handicap win over the same distance and track on Feb. 25.

The dual-Classic winner will be ridden once again by Victor Espinoza, who has been aboard for all of the 5-year-old’s greatest triumphs, as well as his gallant second-place effort in the 2015 World Cup.

California Chrome will face an all-star field loaded with top American horses including Keen Ice (post 1), Mshawish (post 2), Frosted (post 9), and Hoppertunity (post 10).

Mshawish, like California Chrome, will join the Taylor Made stallion roster upon completion of his career.

The World Cup is race nine on Saturday’s card, with a scheduled post time of 1:00 p.m. ET
