Colt wins Keeneland debut, giving Astrology first American winner, second overall

Taylor Made Stallions’ freshman sire Astrology, A.P. Indy’s Graded stakes-winning 2-year-old and Classic-placed 3-year-old, was represented with his first American winner – and second overall winner from three starters – on Wednesday, when 2-year-old colt Capt. Grider scored a debut victory in a $50,000 Maiden Special Weight race at Keeneland.

Capt. Grider proved best with an impressive stretch run in the 4 ½-furlong event, stopping the clock in 51.70 seconds over a fast local main track. Trained by Dante Zanelli, Jr., the bay colt earned $30,000 for owner Horse International. He is out of the multiple stakes-winning and multiple stakes-producing Dynaformer mare Majestic Dy, and was bred in Kentucky by Kings and Queens Farm.

On the track, Astrology broke his maiden at Saratoga before winning the Iroquois S. (G3) at Churchill Downs. As a 3-year-old, he finished third in the Preakness S. (G1) at Pimlico, representing A.P. Indy as his only Graded stakes-winning son at two to return to be Classic-placed at three.

Astrology is out of the four-time stakes-producing Quiet American mare Quiet Eclipse, who is also the dam of two graded stakes-winning juveniles, and is a cross that’s responsible for some of A.P. Indy’s top horses including leading sire Bernardini. A Stonestreet/Bolton/Taylor Made Stallions Venture, Astrology is currently standing at Taylor Made in Nicholasville, KY for a fee of $6,500 S&N.
