Taylor Made Stallions has set its 2017 stallion roster and most fees, led by new stallion Mshawish, the multiple Grade 1-winning son of Medaglia d’Oro who will stand his first season for $20,000 S&N.
California Chrome, the farm’s other new marquee stallion, will have his introductory stud fee determined and announced after he runs in the upcoming Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita, where he figures to be a prohibitive favorite.
“These are very exciting times at Taylor Made Stallions,” said Ben Taylor, Vice President of Taylor Made Stallions. “We could not be happier to have the opportunity to grow our stallion roster with the likes of two new multiple Grade 1 winners of the caliber of Mshawish and California Chrome. Our entire staff is energized and ready to get to work in serving the breeders this upcoming breeding season.”
An earner of $2,421,351, Mshawish (pronounced em-SHUH-wish) retired to Taylor Made Stallions as leading sire Medaglia d’Oro’s most accomplished Grade 1-winning son to date, with five total Graded stakes wins and seven total stakes victories including Grade 1 scores on both dirt & turf. He earned a 106 Beyer in his decisive victory in this year’s Donn H. in just his third lifetime start on the dirt. A year prior, Mshawish captured his first Grade 1 win in the Gulfstream Park Turf H. (G1), earning a 104 Beyer for that performance.
Graydar heads the established stallions on Taylor Made’s roster, as the imposing Grade 1-winning son of Unbridled’s Song will stand in 2017 for a fee of $12,500 S&N. A brilliant winner of the Donn H. (G1), Graydar will be represented with his highly-anticipated first-crop of 2-year-olds hitting the racetrack next year. His yearling fillies sold for up to $250,000 and his yearling colts up to $210,000 in 2016.
Taylor Made Stallions has two stallions standing at the value-based fee of $6,500 S&N again in 2017 with Astrology and Northern Afleet.
Astrology, A.P. Indy’s graded stakes-winning 2-year-old and Classic-placed 3-year-old, has nine winners to date from his first crop of 2-year-olds to race this year, including a co-highest two blacktype winners among freshman sires. His debutante Arella Rockstar recently remained undefeated after a victory in the Matron S. (G3) at Belmont.
Northern Afleet enjoyed another solid year in 2016, siring six Graded winners on three different continents including his twelfth lifetime Grade 1 winner in United Nations S. (G1) victor World Approval.
