My Mella Bella and Top Hat Tango both scored maiden victories over the past weekend to top of a great late January stretch for Graydar, whose first crop of runners are 3-year-olds this year.
Graydar is arguably the hottest Second-Crop Sire of early 2018, with eight winners already this month, continuing the momentum of 2017, when he was a top-10 First-Crop Sire of winners.
My Mella Bella won at second asking on Jan. 27, taking a 7 1/2-furlong maiden special weight affair by nearly three lengths at Delta Downs. A gray/roan like her sire, My Mella Bella was bred by Paul Pruett and Simon Winston, and is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Bobina. Her dam Maliziosa was a three-time stakes winner of $327,581.
Top Hat Tango, another gray filly, also won in her second outing, dominating a 4 1/2-furlong maiden race by over six lengths. Bred in Kentucky by Roy Gottlieb and Denali Stud, Top Hat Tango is out of Renfro Valley Star, who is also the dam of True North H. (G2) winner Fast Bullet.
