Graydar’s 3-year-olds have made a big splash thus far in 2018, racking up wins at an impressive rate. The latest came on Feb. 2 when Smoke Monster drew off to a 6 1/4-length victory going 6 1/2-furlongs at Delta Downs.
With 10 winners already this year, Graydar leads all Second-Crop Sires standing in North America. One of his most impressive winners, Lombo, will take his first step on the 2019 Triple Crown trail in the Feb. 3 Robert B. Lewis S. (G3) at Gulfstream Park.
Smoke Monster, who assumed command soon after the break, was on cruise control the entire trip as much the best against an overmatched group of 3-year-olds. The winner is owned by Twin Creeks Racing Stables and was bred by Bill Harrigan and Mike Pietrangelo. The gray colt sold for $200,000 at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton March Select Sale of 2-year-olds in training.
