Next turned his Saturday two-turn debut at Keeneland into a one-horse race with a thoroughly dominating 11 3/4-length win in the 1 1/16-mile contest for 2-year-olds.
The gray juvenile, who broke his maiden on the Kentucky Downs turf course on Sept. 16, handled the switch to the main track with ease. After setting a measured pace of 1:12.19 for the first six furlongs, Next drew away with authority while under a hand ride as he finished up the distance on the “good” track in 1:44.32. Next is a Silverton Hill LLC homebred out of the multiple stakes-placed Awesome Again mare Bahia Beach. With two wins in three starts, he has earned $96,894.
Not This Time’s first crop has been brilliant throughout the year. He is currently on top of the Freshman Sire list with the winners of 19 races, as well as by black type winners with two and black type horses with four. His 2-year-old filly Princess Noor, winner of the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, is among the favorites for the Nov. 6 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
