First-Crop sire Mshawish recorded his tenth winner from his first crop of runners on Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs with Risky Reward’s 2 1/2-length maiden special weight win on the turf.
The 2-year-old filly came out the gate very well, but just a beat behind Euphoric. Risky Reward pressed the leader through three furlongs, then went by willingly and despite drifting out in upper stretch, pulled away late for the convincing win.
Risky Reward, who was second to subsequent Matron S. (G3) winner and Breeders’ Cup entrant Royal Approval in her debut, picked up $49,092 for the win. The bay filly is owned by RTA Family Trust and was bred in Kentucky by Haras Bouquetot Sas. Her dam Rahaf has a yearling full brother to Risky Reward.
Mshawish, who earned more than $2.4 million in his career, was a Grade 1 winner on both dirt and turf. Much like their sire, his progeny has began to excel with experience, accounting for seven winners in the last month alone. The Taylor Made stallion will stand for $7,500 S&N in 2021.
