Carrothers’ showed a terrific burst in the final quarter-mile of his Feb. 2 allowance win, drawing off to win the “about” one-mile on the synthetic track at Southwell racetrack in Great Britain by 2 1/4-lengths (VIDEO).
The 3-year-old son of Mshawish has won his last two starts after a solid third in his late October debut and is the fourth winner this year for his sire’s second crop of runners.
Carrothers tracked the field in the three path most of the way and ranged up for the lead with a quarter mile to go without being asked. He easily took command and drew off with a couple shakes of the reins to win going away.
Carrothers is owned by Sahara Thoroughbreds and was bred in Kentucky by Siena Farms and sold for $125,000 at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling sale. Carrothers’ second dam Gone Purrfect is a full sister to champion Speightstown as well as Blue Grass S. (G2) winner Irap.
