Great Escape’s connections are eyeing a possible stakes start after the 2-year-old Midnight Storm colt was a sharp maiden special weight winner Saturday evening at Churchill Downs.
The dark bay, owned by WinStar Farm and Siena Farm LLC, won the seven-furlong contest by 2 1/4-lengths, covering the distance in a solid 1:22.75 on the fast main track in what was his second lifetime start.
Trainer Rodolphe Brissett said afterwards that Great Escape would be pointed towards the $200,000 Street Sense S. on Oct. 31 at Churchill.
Great Escape sold for $200,000 to his owners at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Selected Yearlings sale last September. He was bred in Kentucky by Usquebaugh Stables LLC.
First-Crop sire Midnight Storm is now the sire of six winners, all in maiden special weight races. A graded stakes winner on both dirt and turf of over $1.7 million, Midnight Storm stood the 2021 season for $7,500 S&N.
