Mshawish filly passes surface switch test for first stakes win

Music Amore, who hadn’t raced on dirt in 13 months, handled the surface with perfection Saturday at Laurel Park, winning the $100,000 Searching S. by 2 ½-lengths.

The 3-year-old filly is the seventh stakes horse this year for Mshawish. She has now won three of her past four starts since joining the Gerald Brooks barn.

Music Amore went head-to-head for the lead from her inside post, battling through the first quarter-mile with Queen Macha. That filly had trouble negotiating the turn, leaving Music Amore on her own around the bend. Straightening for home, Lady Puchi loomed a threat, but Music Amore shook clear in the final furlong to win going away in 1:38.88 for the mile on the fast main track.

“When she made the lead going down the backside, I said, ‘We’ve got a shot.’ When she turned for home, she’s got a big heart and she took care of it,” Brooks said.

Brooks co-owns Music Amore with Carl Hess, Jr. and Ronald Clark. Saturday’s win upped her record to 4-2-1 from 11 starts and earnings to $119,575.

Music Amore was bred by Siena Farm and comes from the same family as Grade 2 winners Yarrow Brae, Badouizm and Esteemed Friend.
