Next, a 4-year-old son of Not This Time, was much the best in the $150,000 Cape Henlopen S. on Sept. 8 at Delaware Park, rolling home to a 18 ¼-length victory in the 1 ½-mile contest.
The off-the-turf Cape Henlopen went postward with six horses. Nest settled nicely in second behind a headstrong Highway Bound, who led through the first mile before Nest moved up along side and took over the lead with ease. Odds-on favorite Alex Joon made a brief bid at the top of the stretch, but was no threat as Nest widened at will to win in a canter.
Winner of last year’s War Chant S. at Churchill Downs, Next has now earned $360,844. He is owned by Michael Foster and was bred by Silverton Hill, LLC. Next is the third foal, all winners, out of the multiple stakes-placed Awesome Again mare Bahia Beach.
Next is one of 10 stakes winners, five of them graded, for leading Third-Crop sire and Top-10 General sire Not This Time.
