Not This Time’s Cogburn scores second straight stakes win

Cogburn appears to have found a home in the turf sprint division after tallying his second consecutive stakes score in the $150,000 Grand Prairie Turf Sprint S. on June 24 at Lone Star Park (WATCH RACE).

Less than a month prior, when making his first turf start in the Chamberlain Bridge S., the 4-year-old son of Not This Time rallied from off the pace before closing very quickly to get the win.

In what would be a near identical race, Cogburn was at the rear after missing the break of the Turf Sprint. He was some 10 lengths behind with less than a quarter mile to run, then unleashed a furious rally to outfinish Big Chopper by a head in :55.64 for the five furlongs on the firm turf.

Cogburn, who finished second in both the 2022 Chick Lang S. (G3) and Bachelor S. on the main track, has an overall record of 5-2-0 in 10 starts, with earnings of $426,710 for owners Clark Brewster and William & Corinne Heiligbrodt.

The winner was bred by Bellary Bloodstock and sold to Brewster for $150,000 at the 2021 OBS Spring 2-year-olds sale.

After finishing 2022 as the champion Third-Crop sire, Not This Time currently leads this year’s Fourth-Crop sire list with over $6.1 million in progeny earnings, a figure that is also strong enough to place him in the top 10 on the General Sire list.
