Keewaydin became the 13 th first-crop winner worldwide for his sire Instagrand with an impressive
maiden special weight victory at the Belmont at the Big A meet on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Ridden by Dylan Davis, Keewaydin broke alertly in the seven-furlong fixture. He vied for the lead on the
outside under a snug hold before gaining a short lead while racing around the far turn. He grabbed the
lead and opened three lengths in the stretch and held at bay a late rally from Volt to score by 1 ¾
lengths at the finish. Keewaydin stopped the clock in 1:22.09 in winning in his second lifetime start for
owner OXO Equine and trainer Chad Brown. Keewaydin just missed in his career debut at Saratoga in his
career debut in August, finishing a close third in a blanket finish.
Produced from the Officer mare Nothing But Heart, Keewaydin was a $140,000 acquisition for OXO
Equine out of the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Mixed Sale, where he was consigned by his breeder
Terrazas Thoroughbreds.
